Psychoacoustics is the scientific study of how humans perceive sound. It considers questions such as, “How do we hear pitch, loudness, and timbre? What roles are played by the different parts of the human aural mechanism (ear, nervous system, and brain)? How do they convert pressure changes in the air around us into sensations of musical sound? How do we detect the location of a sound? How do our minds distinguish sounds we want to hear from other sounds occurring simultaneously? How is our perception of musical sound affected by age?”
This class will cover the various woods used in piano making. We will learn to recognize some of these woods, and how and why they are used. Do you know how to tell if a soundboard is really Sitka spruce? This is something all technicians should know. Come to this class and find out!!! |
